You can either pay the cost in one go, or over a series of months, and this money goes into a protected, independently managed trust. This money will then be used to pay the costs of the funeral you have planned. The big advantage of buying a funeral plan is that your family can rest assured that your wishes are being honoured exactly as you'd have wanted them to be, which is important for the grieving process, and they won't have to worry about needing to pay anything extra, as everything will already be taken care of.
