He founded Fairer Finance in 2014 after a senior role at Which?, where he campaigned for fairer treatment of customers in the wake of the financial crisis. James is a regular contributor to national media, and has appeared on BBC’s Watchdog, Rip-Off Britain, Moneybox, and Dispatches, as well as writing regularly for The Daily Telegraph. His expertise is sought by regulators and industry bodies alike, and he sits on the Consumer Advisory Groups for both UK Finance and the Association of British Insurers, as well as the Professional Standards Committee at the Chartered Insurance Institute. Earlier in his career, James spent a decade in national newspapers, most recently as Personal Finance Editor and cycling columnist at The Independent. His journalistic work has long focused on making finance clearer and fairer for ordinary people. James lives with his wife and two children in Tooting, where he also serves the local community as Chair of Governors at Smallwood Primary School.
